MAKE IT!!! The Round Bag !

On my sketch book, this design started on the 2nd of July 2020 and I think it took just one day to be completed. I`ve tried to submit it a couple of times to crochet magazines, but it was completely ignored!

But I love it, because it`s simple and bold at the same time! My first version was made in blue, the new one is in hot pink : which one do you prefer most?

The blue version (Turquoise/HH07) starts with a magic circle and you work 6 hDC in the first round. You need two balls in blue and one in steel. The final scallops are made with 7 chains each. The diameter of the bag is 36cm/14.2in . Even the bamboo handles are slightly different from the ones used for the pink bag with a width of 20cm/7.9in .

The given pattern is for the pink version !

YOU NEED

  • knitcraft HUG IT OUT super chunky, 200g/100%acrylic/58m in the following shades : Hot Pink/HH08 , 1 ball and Steel/HH02 , 1 ball

Be aware that both Hot Pink and Turquoise are discontinued. At the moment in the Hobbycraft stores you can find the following shades : Paprika, Steel, Shell, Duck Blue, Duck Egg Blue, Pink, Mustard and Ruby!

  • 15mm hook
  • scissors/yarn needle
  • bamboo handles, 18cm (W) x 12cm (H) [7.1 x 4.7 in]

Both bag panels reach a diameter of 32cm/12.6in.
Gauge is not important for this project.
Please remember I follow the US crochet terminology.
Skill level : confident beginner/intermediate
The initial 2ch of each round is never considered as a stitch!

PATTERN
Front Panel
Make a slip knot on your hook using the hot pink yarn. Chain 4 and sl st into first chain to form a ring
Round 1 : 2ch, 8hDC into the ring, sl st in top of 2ch [8sts]
Round 2 : 2ch, 2hDC in each stitch, sl st in top of 2ch [16sts]
Round 3 : 2ch, (1hDC, 2hDC in next stitch) 8 times, sl st in top of 2ch [24sts]
Round 4 : 2ch, (2hDC, 2hDC in next stitch) 8 times, sl st in top of 2ch [32sts]
Round 5 : 2ch, (3hDC, 2hDC in next stitch) 8 times, sl st in top of 2ch [40sts]
Round 6 : 2ch, (4hDC, 2hDC in next stitch) 8 times, sl st in top of 2ch [48sts]
Round 7 : 2ch, (5hDC, 2hDC in next stitch) 3 times

Now collect one bamboo handle and work 7DC around it (=5DC, 2DC in next stitch) : you work the first half of the double crochet stitch as usual, while to complete it you incorporate the bottom the handle before the last stitch draw

After the handle is all wrapped, continue the round as : (5HDC, 2hDC in next stitch) 4 times, sl st in top of 2ch [56sts] and fasten off. Weave in all ends.
N.B. : if you need a visualization on how to crochet around a bamboo handle, you can find useful video tutorials on YouTube!

Back Panel
Follow the instructions given for the front panel, but this time use the steel yarn!

JOINING and EDGING
Put the pink panel on the top of the steel one (so their WS are facing) and pair the handles on the top.
Using the steel yarn, make a slip knot on the hook and push it under two paired stitches, missing the first three pairs starting from the left of the handles (so you are in the fourth pair of stitches!).

Row 1 : work 43 sc around (you stop 3 couple of stitches before the handles, right side), turn
Row 2 : *5ch, miss two sts, sl st in next st; rep from * to the end, fasten off.
Weave in all ends.

YOU HAVE A BAG !!!!

..you may add a big flower to embellish it !!!

Hope to see some bags soon !!!! Remember you can find me on instagram, too !!! [here]

Make it ! Knitted triangular scarf !!!

Last December, I saw a very simple and cute scarf knitted by Angie ( le monde de sucrette) and I thought to knit one for me, too, but then I was busy with the gifts to prepare for family and friends back in Italy .... so nothing was done for me!!! Luckily, some days ago, while browsing through my blogs list, I found a post from Ilaria ( IDA interior lifestyle) , who was proposing the same (she added a pompom!) piece of clothing .... I didn't have any excuse to wait longer for knitting my own triangular scarf!!!! ;oD So, I started .... Do you want to start one, too ??? Well, you need : some yarn ! My personal choice was : Lana Grossa Basics Calmo (59% acrylic, 24% cotton and 17% linen), shade 207. All my 4 balls of yarn (50g each) have been used for this project. Then 2 balls (50g each) from Rowan Classic Cotton Jeans Yarn (100% cotton), shade 365-Sierra, for both stripes and tassels! a pair of 4,5mm  knitting circular needles or, if you prefer, a pair of long ...

Make it ! The Granny Yarn Chain !!!

ARE YOU READY FOR THIS ???? SURE YOU ARE !!! I now that!!!! ;oD So during this last week I was showing you via Instagram (see  my personal feed ) some colourful pictures about my new crochet w.i.p. , which I completed last night ... ... so this morning, before school/office time a couple of boys helped me with the last photos for this blog post ... TA-DAH ... The beauty of this project resides in the fact that is adaptable to any extent, any kind of yarn and any corner of your home (in or out!) !!! The inspiration and "creative kick" derives from two other projects I've seen around :  The Chain Statement Necklace  by my dear friend Miki from  Set Free My Gypsy Soul  and  Peggy's Comfy Indoors Blanket  by Pip Lincoln from  Meet Me at Mike's  !!! Thank you both, girls !!! It has been a long time since I've been wanting to crochet (or even knit !) a paper chain ... I made some long paper chains for our Christmas tree back in ...

Make it ! The Granny Bunny !!!

You know, this picture from my  Instagram feed  has collected more than 900 likes ... ... and a colourful crocheter named Karin @woolfieber , made her own version just looking at my pic (you can find her work  HERE  ) !!!! My idea, since the beginning , was to prepare a photo tutorial for you, but do you really need one ? These Granny Bunnies are so easy to crochet, believe me !!!! YOU NEED : some colourful mercerised cotton a 3,5 mm hook a pair of scissors a tapestry needle beads for embellishments (optional) Please note that I follow the US crochet terminology, thank you ! Each bunny measures 13 cm in height and it can be used for different purposes : bunting, hanging decorations, appliques, brooches, on napkin rings and more !!!! The sky's the limit !!! You can use this pattern even with different yarns and, consequently, hook sizes !!! ;oD Abbreviations : DC = double crochet ch = chain SC = single crochet 2SCtog = 2...
