MAKE IT ! Frida Filet Panel !!!

I Know, I know....

A lot of crafters have done it already : a Frida inspired project !

But I never did one, even when the trend started a while ago! I don`t follow trends and I don`t create any, but between August-September 2020 (!!!) I started to play with an idea of Frida and I developed it through crochet : filet, pixelated and C2C, too!!

Today I`m going to show you how to work a small filet panel, which you can decorate (or not!) as you like, adding beads, sequins or whatever you fancy most!

Ready?

WHAT YOU NEED

  • mercerized DK cotton (minimum 20g)
  • 4mm or 3.5mm hook
  • scissors
  • yarn needle
  • bamboo bag handles
  • beads, sequins. scrapbooking embellishments, etc..
  • needle and thread to sew on embellishments
  • colourful cotton yarn to use for fringes and to attach the panel to the handle
  • pins
  • blocking board
  • water spray bottle
  • steamer (useful to smooth the fringes)

Please note that I follow the US crochet terminology.
The turning chains (4ch height) are considered as stitches.
Skill level : intermediate.
Panel dimensions : 26x17cm (white and red ones), 24x16cm the blue ones [after blocking]

PATTERN

Above you see the filet chart for the panel. Such a pity you can`t properly see the grid and consequently the empty spaces of the work. No worries : the written pattern and the photos will be useful enough to create the design anyway!

The rows of the chart are numbered from bottom to top.
You read the first row (and all the odd rows)  from right to left, while you read all the even rows from left to right.
Both rows 1 and 16 are made of open mesh.
The solid blocks (in black in above chart) are filled with treble stitches.

With the hook of your choice and the right mercerized cotton, chain 39, wrap yarn twice, insert hook in 9th chain from hook and

Weave all ends in.

You can crochet more panels if you like and join them into placemats or curtains, if you desire!
I`ve chosen to crochet a total of three panels, each in a different colour and turn each one of them into wall hanging decorations!

But first : blocking !!!

Pin your panel on a blocking board or a foam tile and spray water on it. Let it dry completely before decorating it with beads & co. !!!

So, after the blocking, collect all the decorative stuff you have in the house : I`ve been using beads, sequins and other embellishments for scrapbooking!!!

You arrange everything on a flat surface, as a table, and experiment with options and colour. When you are happy with the outcome you can start to sew the pieces on, one by one and voila`, you have a colourful Frida to hang on any wall of your home!

Every panel, once done, has been knotted to a bamboo bag handle so to have an original way to hang it on the wall : what do you think??
The fringes at the bottom are made with contrasting colours and there are two in each mesh space. The length is up to you!!!

Thank you, xxxx Alessandra

Make it ! Knitted triangular scarf !!!

Last December, I saw a very simple and cute scarf knitted by Angie ( le monde de sucrette) and I thought to knit one for me, too, but then I was busy with the gifts to prepare for family and friends back in Italy .... so nothing was done for me!!! Luckily, some days ago, while browsing through my blogs list, I found a post from Ilaria ( IDA interior lifestyle) , who was proposing the same (she added a pompom!) piece of clothing .... I didn't have any excuse to wait longer for knitting my own triangular scarf!!!! ;oD So, I started .... Do you want to start one, too ??? Well, you need : some yarn ! My personal choice was : Lana Grossa Basics Calmo (59% acrylic, 24% cotton and 17% linen), shade 207. All my 4 balls of yarn (50g each) have been used for this project. Then 2 balls (50g each) from Rowan Classic Cotton Jeans Yarn (100% cotton), shade 365-Sierra, for both stripes and tassels! a pair of 4,5mm  knitting circular needles or, if you prefer, a pair of long ...

ARE YOU READY FOR THIS ???? SURE YOU ARE !!! I now that!!!! ;oD So during this last week I was showing you via Instagram (see  my personal feed ) some colourful pictures about my new crochet w.i.p. , which I completed last night ... ... so this morning, before school/office time a couple of boys helped me with the last photos for this blog post ... TA-DAH ... The beauty of this project resides in the fact that is adaptable to any extent, any kind of yarn and any corner of your home (in or out!) !!! The inspiration and "creative kick" derives from two other projects I've seen around :  The Chain Statement Necklace  by my dear friend Miki from  Set Free My Gypsy Soul  and  Peggy's Comfy Indoors Blanket  by Pip Lincoln from  Meet Me at Mike's  !!! Thank you both, girls !!! It has been a long time since I've been wanting to crochet (or even knit !) a paper chain ... I made some long paper chains for our Christmas tree back in ...

Make it ! The Granny Bunny !!!

You know, this picture from my  Instagram feed  has collected more than 900 likes ... ... and a colourful crocheter named Karin @woolfieber , made her own version just looking at my pic (you can find her work  HERE  ) !!!! My idea, since the beginning , was to prepare a photo tutorial for you, but do you really need one ? These Granny Bunnies are so easy to crochet, believe me !!!! YOU NEED : some colourful mercerised cotton a 3,5 mm hook a pair of scissors a tapestry needle beads for embellishments (optional) Please note that I follow the US crochet terminology, thank you ! Each bunny measures 13 cm in height and it can be used for different purposes : bunting, hanging decorations, appliques, brooches, on napkin rings and more !!!! The sky's the limit !!! You can use this pattern even with different yarns and, consequently, hook sizes !!! ;oD Abbreviations : DC = double crochet ch = chain SC = single crochet 2SCtog = 2...
