My first big crochet project !!!!

Since last Sunday evening (5th of May), I'm working on a new big project...

....a BLANKET !!!!!!

It all started because Tobia wanted a blanket to cover himself when he is watching the TV on the sofa in the living room. Yes, I know that we live in JK, where we have summer all year round, but because of the humidity (and the heat!!!) and because of mosquitos (that could bring dengue.....) we have a lot of Acs in the house, and there is a "naughty" one on the top of the TV in front of the sofa, so.......

The inspiration arrived through Ravelry, where I found the  Block Stitch Afghan pattern by Sue Pinner. This pattern is available for free on her blog, but what really helped me are not the written instructions, but the good pictures of her work!!!!
I have to destash my stash of yarn, so....
I've chained 500 hundreds of chain stitches (more or less : I didn't check twice the actual big number!!!), using a 4mm hook. The pattern is very easy : you have to alternate rows of 3DCs shells+chain-1 spaces with rows made with SC+chain 2 groups repeated till the end of the row! You work your 3DCs shells over the chain2 stitches!! Easy peasy, indeed!!!
Another nice aspect of this pattern is that you never have to turn your work : each new row starts at the beginning of the previous one!!! So good!!!
I pick a new colour at the beginning of the new starting row!

I'm working on it every evening : repetitive and relaxing ! I like that!
...and it's growing and growing.....!!!!!
Someone is constantly checking on me...

....maybe a little bit interested in the work going on????? ;oD

  2. Your blanket looks so lovely and colourful!! Absolutely cute and adorable! :))
I too love this stitch and have it on my pinterest. I am doing few lines on a pencil pouch, but mine is a thinner thread and this stitch goes well with thick yarn.

I noticed the picture of the grey tiger cat. Is it yours? What's its name? It looks a bit like our Hugo.

I envy you for living in Jakarta. Seesm such an adventure.
You probably get to buy lots of special fabrics over there. OOOh must stop thinking about that.

I love your bright colours. Didn't have a pattern when I started, I worked off a picture from a magazine,, so some rows have 1SC 1 ch and other 1SC 2 ch...make it up as I go along!

Thanks for the link, I'd like to try it but on a much smaller project. Still have to finish my large granny square blanket!!
I'm sure Tobia will enjoy it when it's finished.
You do have an interested onlooker watching that yarn and thinking it might be fun to play with, hehe......

  17. What a beautiful start to what looks to be a stunning blanket. A new stitch for me and I think it will be gorgeous once done. It's funny how ideas devolve out of the need of our kids. My current blanket is a result or my daughters tanti about not liking our picnic rug, I hope she's going to like this one. Enjoy xo

Make it ! The Granny Yarn Chain !!!

ARE YOU READY FOR THIS ???? SURE YOU ARE !!! I now that!!!! ;oD So during this last week I was showing you via Instagram (see  my personal feed ) some colourful pictures about my new crochet w.i.p. , which I completed last night ... ... so this morning, before school/office time a couple of boys helped me with the last photos for this blog post ... TA-DAH ... The beauty of this project resides in the fact that is adaptable to any extent, any kind of yarn and any corner of your home (in or out!) !!! The inspiration and "creative kick" derives from two other projects I've seen around :  The Chain Statement Necklace  by my dear friend Miki from  Set Free My Gypsy Soul  and  Peggy's Comfy Indoors Blanket  by Pip Lincoln from  Meet Me at Mike's  !!! Thank you both, girls !!! It has been a long time since I've been wanting to crochet (or even knit !) a paper chain ... I made some long paper chains for our Christmas tree back in Indonesia but I al

Make it ! Knitted triangular scarf !!!

Last December, I saw a very simple and cute scarf knitted by Angie ( le monde de sucrette) and I thought to knit one for me, too, but then I was busy with the gifts to prepare for family and friends back in Italy .... so nothing was done for me!!! Luckily, some days ago, while browsing through my blogs list, I found a post from Ilaria ( IDA interior lifestyle) , who was proposing the same (she added a pompom!) piece of clothing .... I didn't have any excuse to wait longer for knitting my own triangular scarf!!!! ;oD So, I started .... Do you want to start one, too ??? Well, you need : some yarn ! My personal choice was : Lana Grossa Basics Calmo (59% acrylic, 24% cotton and 17% linen), shade 207. All my 4 balls of yarn (50g each) have been used for this project. Then 2 balls (50g each) from Rowan Classic Cotton Jeans Yarn (100% cotton), shade 365-Sierra, for both stripes and tassels! a pair of 4,5mm  knitting circular needles or, if you prefer, a pair of long strai

Make it ! The Granny Bunny !!!

You know, this picture from my  Instagram feed  has collected more than 900 likes ... ... and a colourful crocheter named Karin @woolfieber , made her own version just looking at my pic (you can find her work  HERE  ) !!!! My idea, since the beginning , was to prepare a photo tutorial for you, but do you really need one ? These Granny Bunnies are so easy to crochet, believe me !!!! YOU NEED : some colourful mercerised cotton a 3,5 mm hook a pair of scissors a tapestry needle beads for embellishments (optional) Please note that I follow the US crochet terminology, thank you ! Each bunny measures 13 cm in height and it can be used for different purposes : bunting, hanging decorations, appliques, brooches, on napkin rings and more !!!! The sky's the limit !!! You can use this pattern even with different yarns and, consequently, hook sizes !!! ;oD Abbreviations : DC = double crochet ch = chain SC = single crochet 2SCtog = 2 single crochet
