Make it! April Fool's Day Fish !!!

Today could be a day full of jokes .... all over the world !!!!
In Italy we have the custom to cut out a fish from a piece of paper (read here !) and we try to stick it on the back of a person (trying to be gentle, so that the victim is not aware of it) and then laugh at her/his shoulders .... silly, but such fun when I was a kid!!!

Today, instead, I will love to give you a mini pattern (no photo tutorial, sorry!) that allows you to crochet some little fish to gift to your friends ... no jokes here!!!

WHAT YOU NEED :
  • some colourful cotton yarns
  • a hook or more : I was working both with  3,5mm (one strand) and 4mm (2 strands). I've used once even a 3mm hook!
  • a pair of scissors
  • safety pins
  • buttons
  • yarn needle
  • a needle to sew on the buttons
Remember that I follow the US crochet terminology ! ;oD

April Fool's Day Fish PATTERN :

Choose a bright colour from your cottons (any other fibre is fine, too!) and make a slip knot on your hook
Row 1 : chain 3, make 3 hDC (= half double crochets) in first chain, chain 2 and turn
Row 2 : (increasing row) 2 hDC in first stitch, 1 hDC in next stitch, 2 hDC in last stitch, chain 2 and turn
Rows 3, 4, 5, 6 and 7 : work 5 hDC, chain 2 and turn
Row 8 : (decreasing row) 2 hDCtog (= half double crochets together : decreasing!), 1 hDC, 2 hDCtog , chain 2 and turn
Row 9 : (decreasing row) work 3 hDCtog, chain 2 and turn
Row 10 : work 3 hDC in same stitch, chain 2 and turn
Row 11: 3 hDC, chain 2 and turn
Row 12 : (increasing row) 2 hDC in first stitch, 1 hDC in next stitch, 2 hDC in last stitch

From now on, you can choose between two options :

OPTION 1 :

chain 1 and slip stitch all around the fish body, until you reach again the tail and
Row 13 : 1 SC (= single crochet) in first stitch, [2 DC (= double crochet), 1 slip stitch, 2 DC ] in third stitch, 1 SC in last stitch

Cut yarn, fasten off and trim ends in . Sew on a button as the fish eye.

OPTION 2 :

You can decide to not slip stich all around the fish body, so, instead, at the end of row 12 you can chain 1 and then turn
Row 13 : as in option 1

Cut yarn, fasten off and trim ends in. Sew on a button as the fish eye.

When working on my colour block fish, I preferred to use option 1, while working with two strands together (baker's twine effect) I used option 2 !!

The only exception was the above pink/white one, where I still used option 1 !!!

As usual, I'm not able to post just a couple of pictures .....

So, if you wanna follow the Italian custom, just add a pin to your fish and wear it all day long !!!!

You can even decide to make a simple necklace , as I did ..

Have fun today, xxxx Ale

What's new on my working table!

... A brand new owl : Miss Owllure! As the other owls of my nest, she is a gift for a friend of mine and she already left my home!!

She is different from Miss Owlette and Miss Owloween for just one thing.... Infact, there is no cage dangling from her claws, but a clock! I think it's good, anyway! I didn't have any more cages in my drawer...Just some bycicles, the Eiffel Tower, some butterflies and some flowers....I thought the clock had a good chance to have a perfect fit with my owl!

I'm in love with these fish! What do you think? I'm so excited about the velvety effect! Look how different they are even from this one

This one is amazing, too, but it's not so warm, so brilliantly colourful....!!! Well, i'm so happy with the new version!

New handknitted bracelets! They didn't take a long time to knit : it was much longer the customizing time, oh yes! The result is attractive and I hope that tomorrow at the bazaar they will catch some curious customer... we'll see! Another peak? Please, take one more look!

And now all of you : CHEESE!!!! I've taken a group pic :

I love all this coulours together!! They make me feel so thrilled and chirpy!!!!

What to do with the felt spirals, instead?

Well, some ideas popped in my head....like this one :

Earrings! They are so so light, that you can forget about them all day long, while wearing them!

...And a new necklace! Just add some wooden  beads, a bright cord, some ribbons (checkeed; please!) and lovely fabric roses and you will have.....

...A big mess on the table! Infact this is still a WIP, but I think that you did get the idea, right?
Well, now I'm a little bit tired, so I'll leave you for a cup of hot tea, to sip on my pink sofa just for a little while....my boys are back from school, so my day is not finished yet! ; )

See you soon, xxx

What a confusion!!!

I need to clarify my blog situation!!
I've registered my blog with the Italian Blogger. Infact the date and a lot of the gadgets on the two sides of the page are written in Italian. The real problem is the date! I live in Jakarta and at the moment we are 6 hours ahead Italy, so when I print my post, this is registered with the italian date and hour (it seems written 6 hours before!) and not with the Indonesian ones! So, I think it could be nice from me to add the real time each time I write a post, just to be correct! I'm thinking to add it at the end of the new written post ....I hope to remember it! For the ones that are really curious : I didn't sign with the Indonesian Blogger only because I'm not capable to speak and read Indonesian..!!!!!

Now I'll show you my new creation.......

This time I've used a longer thread so that I could complete the necklace with one piece only and less knots!
Next week I'll attend a new bazaar so that's why I'm creating and crafting non-stop! It's fun and relaxing anyway!
While I was working in my studio on this fishy (!!!!) project, I was in good company with....

....a sick boy (39 and some lines of temperature because of sore throat) and a lovely cat that wanted to cheer up a miserable friend....PURRFECT!!!

See you sooon, xxxx

Some cuteness and a little bit of silliness!

Oh yeah! I've crafted a couple of days ago an owl for me! Her name is Miss Owlessandra (!!!) and I'm really proud and happy to go around with her around my neck, as infact she is my own owl necklace!!

And what about this velvety fish? It's really light as a pendant for another necklace and the colours are really yummy! Even Margot was interested in playing with this little fella...

You know? This 3D fish project is not new at all! I've started to bead its brothers and sisters 6/7 years ago while in Cairo. The first ones where made in honour of Nemo and they looked like these ones :

So the idea is still the same, but the beads are different! Which one do you prefer? I'm curious to know !

Well, now give space to the silliness....

I'll tell you all the story! I was still beading the fish and Margot desperately wanted to play with it, BUT.... so, I collected out from my sewing basket the tailor tape measure and I started to swing it in front of her eyes and GOTCHA! The cat was all tangled with the tape and she didn't bother at all!
Isn't she cute? Silly and cute....not bad!!!

See you soon, xxx
