MAKE IT ! GRANNY SANTA & REINDEER !

This design came off my hook on August 2019, and it`s based on two other designs of mine : the Granny Bunny and Rudi the Rainbowdeer !!!

So today I will not show you a full tutorial about these two guys, as there is no need, but I will simply explain the variations based on the existing tutorials. Hope it`s fine for you, too!!

WHAT YOU NEED

A small amount of DK yarns, acrylic or cotton it`s your choice. For both my Santa and Reindeer I`ve been using some Bergere de France Barisienne DK from my stash in : nougatine (brown), geranium (red), igloo (white) and reglisse (black). A very traditional combo, but feel free to adapt it to your own taste!

4mm hook

scissors/yarn needle

blocking board/pins/water bottle spray/ white glue/small bowl and brush

red bead as nose (diameter : 5mm minimum)

I follow the US crochet terminology.

REINDEER

As you can see from the above picture, the reindeer is crocheted following completely the Granny Bunny  pattern. The only difference are the antlers : so instead of crocheting nice bunny ears, you follow the pattern for the antlers given for Rudi the Rainbowdeer . The important thing is to leave a space of 4 stitches (so you sl st 4 times) between the two antlers!

Beanie : make a sl knot on your hook using the red yarn and insert hook in first stitch to the left of the right antler (the reindeer is RS facing you).

Row 1 (RS): 4sc, turn [4 sts]

Row 2 (WS): 3ch, 2DC, 2DC in last st, turn [5 sts]

Row 3: 3ch,  2DC, DC2tog, turn [4 sts]

Row 4: 3ch, 1DC, DC2tog, turn [3 sts]

Row 5: 3ch, DC2tog, fasten off. [2 sts]

From the white yarn cut four strands (same size) and knot them to the top of the beanie using the same method as for fringes. Trim the excess of yarn.

If you like, add a red bead to the muzzle to mimic a nose!

You can find the pattern for the Wrapped Gift Ornament here .

SANTA

Even this time, you follow the pattern given for the Granny Bunny , but this time you need the round body for your Santa. The boots are all black, while the sleeves are red and end with a pair of black gloves. Obviously, if you find too tricky the change of colour, maybe it`s better to use just black yarn for both arms and gloves!

You don`t have antlers to crochet, but the traditional bunny ears : just remember to leave a space of four stitches (so you sl st 4 times) between the two ears!

Beanie : follow the same pattern given for the reindeer !

Beard :

You need to cut 11/12 strands from the white yarn (at least 15cm long) and for each of them : fold the strand in half and pass the loop (from front to back) through the space between rounds 1 and 2 of the face, pass the same loop from back to front in the adjacent space to the right, then pull the ends of the same strand through the loop so to secure the knot. Repeat for all the strands and distribute them regularly to have a nice beard.

Cut an extra white strand to wrap around the dangling strands and make a knot or two to group together the strands. Trim the yarn to give it a triangular shape, more or less!

BLOCKING and STIFFENING

If you need, pin your Santa and/or Reindeer to a blocking board, wrong side facing you. Spray some water and let it dry completely.

If you want a more stiffened result, prepare a solution with water and white glue in equal parts. Brush it on the back of your guys and let it dry before use.

Hope you`ll discover a lot of uses for these quirky guys!!

Thank you, xxxx Ale

Make it ! Knitted triangular scarf !!!

Last December, I saw a very simple and cute scarf knitted by Angie ( le monde de sucrette) and I thought to knit one for me, too, but then I was busy with the gifts to prepare for family and friends back in Italy .... so nothing was done for me!!! Luckily, some days ago, while browsing through my blogs list, I found a post from Ilaria ( IDA interior lifestyle) , who was proposing the same (she added a pompom!) piece of clothing .... I didn't have any excuse to wait longer for knitting my own triangular scarf!!!! ;oD So, I started .... Do you want to start one, too ??? Well, you need : some yarn ! My personal choice was : Lana Grossa Basics Calmo (59% acrylic, 24% cotton and 17% linen), shade 207. All my 4 balls of yarn (50g each) have been used for this project. Then 2 balls (50g each) from Rowan Classic Cotton Jeans Yarn (100% cotton), shade 365-Sierra, for both stripes and tassels! a pair of 4,5mm  knitting circular needles or, if you prefer, a pair of long ...

Make it ! The Granny Yarn Chain !!!

ARE YOU READY FOR THIS ???? SURE YOU ARE !!! I now that!!!! ;oD So during this last week I was showing you via Instagram (see  my personal feed ) some colourful pictures about my new crochet w.i.p. , which I completed last night ... ... so this morning, before school/office time a couple of boys helped me with the last photos for this blog post ... TA-DAH ... The beauty of this project resides in the fact that is adaptable to any extent, any kind of yarn and any corner of your home (in or out!) !!! The inspiration and "creative kick" derives from two other projects I've seen around :  The Chain Statement Necklace  by my dear friend Miki from  Set Free My Gypsy Soul  and  Peggy's Comfy Indoors Blanket  by Pip Lincoln from  Meet Me at Mike's  !!! Thank you both, girls !!! It has been a long time since I've been wanting to crochet (or even knit !) a paper chain ... I made some long paper chains for our Christmas tree back in ...

Make it ! The Granny Bunny !!!

You know, this picture from my  Instagram feed  has collected more than 900 likes ... ... and a colourful crocheter named Karin @woolfieber , made her own version just looking at my pic (you can find her work  HERE  ) !!!! My idea, since the beginning , was to prepare a photo tutorial for you, but do you really need one ? These Granny Bunnies are so easy to crochet, believe me !!!! YOU NEED : some colourful mercerised cotton a 3,5 mm hook a pair of scissors a tapestry needle beads for embellishments (optional) Please note that I follow the US crochet terminology, thank you ! Each bunny measures 13 cm in height and it can be used for different purposes : bunting, hanging decorations, appliques, brooches, on napkin rings and more !!!! The sky's the limit !!! You can use this pattern even with different yarns and, consequently, hook sizes !!! ;oD Abbreviations : DC = double crochet ch = chain SC = single crochet 2SCtog = 2...
