MAKE IT! THE 3 BAGS in 1 !!!

 Hello ! Hello! Hello!!!

This is one of my many returns to blogging and I really hope to be back to this lovely routine, as I found it really satisfactory and fulfilling!

Today I`ll give you an idea on how to crochet my last design : it`s a bag, but which kind of? A bucket bag? A backpack? A shopper/tote/market bag??? Honestly it can be all of them, but not at the same time!!!

WHAT YOU NEED

5mm hook

Colour Tweed Strickgarn from  TEDI, 100g/163m, 74% acrylic/20% wool/6% viscose, 3 balls in cream (yarn B) and 3 balls in charcoal (yarn A). This yarn has lovely colourful flecks! If you can`t find it where you live, I suggest you to use any aran weight yarn to obtain a similar effect.

scissors, yarn needle, tape measure, handheld steamer for blocking

3 couples of magnetic snaps (18mm diameter), no need to sewn on

2 black swivel clasps, D-ring ended, H=6cm, ring base=4,6cm

Skill level : intermediate

Please, note that I follow the US crochet terminology

My turning chains are never considered as stitches.

Measurements : 46cm (H) x 18cm (W)

Stitches abbreviation :

ch= chain

sl st= slip stitch

sc= single crochet

hDC= half double crochet

hDC2tog= half double crochet 2 together (decrease)

blo= work sts in back loops only

CC= change of colour

RS= right side of your work

WS= wrong side of your work

F.O.= fasten off

PATTERN NOTES

You start the bag crocheting first the base, then you work the body. You have a schematic for the body, which shows you elongated hexagons (both in cream and charcoal). The body is not worked following the rules of tapestry crochet (even though you can do that, if you prefer!), but you work vertical strips of hexagons (a total of 12 strips), from left to right, joined-as-you-go (JAYG method) using simple slip stitches on the RS of the bag. Believe me it`s not difficult, just unusual simply because it`s not used so often : it`s more practical to work in rounds, I reckon that!

Change of colour : I prefer not to cut yarn, but to bring it up to the next change. I use to carry the yarn up the side (floats) of the motif. You can use the method you prefer, no problem at all!

If you like this challenge, please follow

THE PATTERN

 BASE

Using yarn A, make a slip knot on your hook, 3ch, sl st in 1st ch to form a ring.

Round 1: 1ch, 6sc, sl st in 1st sc [6sc]

Round 2: 1ch, (2sc in each st) 6 times, sl st in 1st sc [12sc]

Round 3: 1ch, (1sc, 2sc in next st) 6 times, sl st in 1st sc [18sc]

Round 4: 1ch, (2sc, 2sc in next st) 6 times, sl st in 1st sc [24sc]

Continue to increase sts regularly until you complete

Round 13: 1ch, (11sc, 2sc in next st) 6 times, sl st in 1st sc [78sc]

Rounds 14-15: 1ch, 78sc blo, sl st in 1st sc. F.O.

Weave in ends.

BODY

You read the schematic from left to right and from bottom to top.

Each hexagon motif is made of 14 rows, while the half hexagons are made of 7. Each strip is 42 rows high.

When the strip starts with a complete hexagon, you crochet into 3sts of the base, while when you start with half hexagon, you work into 10 sts of the base.

All the joining (=sl sts) are made on the RS of the bag.

STRIPS 4-11

Follow the instructions given for the previous strips, but keep an eye on the schematic to check when it`s time to change colour.

STRIP 12 and joining to strips 11 and 1

As specified in the pattern notes, the joining happens only on the RS of your work, and you are going to join this last strip to strips 11 and 1 to so to complete the bag`s body.

If you find this last joining too stressful, simply work the strip as usual and then sew the strip to the first one to obtain a bucket!

Row 1 (RS): with a sl st join yarn A into the sc at the base of the bag, just before strip 1, 1ch, sl st on the the top of 1st st of row 1 of strip 1, 1hDC in starting space, 1hDC, 2hDCin same space, sl st on top of 1st st of row 1 of strip 11, 2ch, sl st on top of 1st of row 2 of strip 11, turn [4hDC]

TOP HANDLES

Round 1: join yarn A with a sl st in 1st st of strip 8 (check on schematic which strip is!) and work 1sc in same space, then work 77sc around (10 sc in top of half hexagons and 3sc in top of complete ones), sl st on top of 1st sc [78sc]

Rounds 2-3: 1ch, 78sc, sl st in top of 1st sc

Round 4: 1ch and 1sc in same space, 15ch, skip 15, 24sc, 15ch, skip 15, 23sc, sl st on top of 1st sc [48sc, 30ch]

Round 5: 1ch and 1sc in same space, 15sc around ch sts, 24sc, 15sc around ch sts, 23sc, sl st on top of 1st sc [78sc]

Rounds 6-8: 1ch, 78sc, sl st on top of 1st sc

Round 9: sl st all around, F.O. Weave in all ends.

BAG STRAP

Collect both swivel clasps, the hook and yarn A.

Make a slip knot on your hook and work 6sc around the end of one clasps, and turn.

Work a total of 125 rows (more or less, to reach 80cm lenghth in my case). Every row is like : 1ch, 6sc, turn.

When you complete row 124 turn and collect the other clasp : 1ch, (1sc, sl st on the other clasp end) 6 times. Work 1 ch at the end of the joining and rotate the strap of 90 degrees to the right . Work sl sts all around the strap and F.O. when this round is completed. Weave in ends.

To attach the strap to the bottom and top of the bag you need to crochet a couple of small tubes :

make a slip knot on hook, 4ch. Insert hook in 2nd ch from hook and work 3sc along, turn.

Work a total of 7 rows (each : 1ch, 3sc, turn) and F.O. Make two.

Then sew together the short sides of each piece and sew on the bag : at the bottom (base of strip 7) and at the top (top of same strip). Weave in all ends.

You can even attach the strap on the sides of the bag : on both tops of the middle hexagons in strips 4 and 10. In this way you have a shoulder bag with a floppy flap!

MAGNETIC SNAPS

You need them if you like the idea to use the bag as a backpack.

I put two on the sides of the handles and one just under the handles. To cover their evidence on the outside of your bag, you need to crochet 6 small circles as follows :

Using yarn A, 3ch and sl st into 1st ch to form a ring. 1ch and 8sc into the circle, sl st on top of 1st sc and F.O. leaving a long tail. Make 6.

Sew each cover over each button and weave in all ends.

JOB DONE : CONGRATULATIONS!!!!

Make it ! Knitted triangular scarf !!!

Last December, I saw a very simple and cute scarf knitted by Angie ( le monde de sucrette) and I thought to knit one for me, too, but then I was busy with the gifts to prepare for family and friends back in Italy .... so nothing was done for me!!! Luckily, some days ago, while browsing through my blogs list, I found a post from Ilaria ( IDA interior lifestyle) , who was proposing the same (she added a pompom!) piece of clothing .... I didn't have any excuse to wait longer for knitting my own triangular scarf!!!! ;oD So, I started .... Do you want to start one, too ??? Well, you need : some yarn ! My personal choice was : Lana Grossa Basics Calmo (59% acrylic, 24% cotton and 17% linen), shade 207. All my 4 balls of yarn (50g each) have been used for this project. Then 2 balls (50g each) from Rowan Classic Cotton Jeans Yarn (100% cotton), shade 365-Sierra, for both stripes and tassels! a pair of 4,5mm  knitting circular needles or, if you prefer, a pair of long ...

Make it ! The Granny Yarn Chain !!!

ARE YOU READY FOR THIS ???? SURE YOU ARE !!! I now that!!!! ;oD So during this last week I was showing you via Instagram (see  my personal feed ) some colourful pictures about my new crochet w.i.p. , which I completed last night ... ... so this morning, before school/office time a couple of boys helped me with the last photos for this blog post ... TA-DAH ... The beauty of this project resides in the fact that is adaptable to any extent, any kind of yarn and any corner of your home (in or out!) !!! The inspiration and "creative kick" derives from two other projects I've seen around :  The Chain Statement Necklace  by my dear friend Miki from  Set Free My Gypsy Soul  and  Peggy's Comfy Indoors Blanket  by Pip Lincoln from  Meet Me at Mike's  !!! Thank you both, girls !!! It has been a long time since I've been wanting to crochet (or even knit !) a paper chain ... I made some long paper chains for our Christmas tree back in ...

Make it ! The Granny Bunny !!!

You know, this picture from my  Instagram feed  has collected more than 900 likes ... ... and a colourful crocheter named Karin @woolfieber , made her own version just looking at my pic (you can find her work  HERE  ) !!!! My idea, since the beginning , was to prepare a photo tutorial for you, but do you really need one ? These Granny Bunnies are so easy to crochet, believe me !!!! YOU NEED : some colourful mercerised cotton a 3,5 mm hook a pair of scissors a tapestry needle beads for embellishments (optional) Please note that I follow the US crochet terminology, thank you ! Each bunny measures 13 cm in height and it can be used for different purposes : bunting, hanging decorations, appliques, brooches, on napkin rings and more !!!! The sky's the limit !!! You can use this pattern even with different yarns and, consequently, hook sizes !!! ;oD Abbreviations : DC = double crochet ch = chain SC = single crochet 2SCtog = 2...
