My first shawl ever !!!

While browsing this Japanese crochet book…

… I had a crash for this "starry sky" (this is what my eyes see!!!) shawl…

….. may I have a try ?????
I never crocheted something so serious like a piece of garment (apart from some easy scarves!)…… I was thinking….. I was scared….
…..but the chart was showing simple stitches and I had the right yarn to use for this new adventure !!!

….and yes, I have dared!!!!! Yippie!!!!!

The first star was really simple (is the one at the base of the shawl!), so I decided to crochet more stars….

…..I just loved to work on this satisfying project and I really liked to see the shawl growing little by little….

….and yesterday night I could see it finished!!!!!!!
This morning I had a little time to take some photos of the final product outside in the garden, where the sun was shining (right now, instead, it's raining cats and dogs : wet season!!!!)…..

The fact is that now I need to block it…..any suggestions???? The yarns used are 100% acrylic, so what is the better way to beautify these lovely stars??? Thank you for any tip you will offer me!!!

This will be a Christmas gift for….I cannot say it, even tough the recipient is not a regular reader of my blog, but you never know, right?

My "dummy lady" kindly offered herself to model the shawl for the last pics…

…..what do you think????

Happy weekend, xxxx Alessandra

Love from Holland, Tinie !!!!

….This is the usual way Tinie sign her comments or her emails addressed to me!!!!

This early afternoon, when back home from grocery (and not only : yarn, too!!!) shopping, I found a little parcel and my heart started to sing and skip for joy : I was waiting for that!!!

In this post, Tinie has shown the picture of a crocheted garland with stars…..lovely! What made me think that I was the one who could receive this gift were the words…"last week I also sent an envelope far away"…. Silly, but honestly Indonesia is really far away from Holland, no? ;oD

Do you wanna see what I did find in the above mentioned parcel?
Please, have a look …..

How wonderful is that?

Not only a lovely starry garland…

….But even a handmade felt heart with dutch colours….

….and a lovely hand written card….

…such a sweet girl Tinie !!!!! You can meet her just visiting her blog Crea Tinie : a colourful lovely place where to go!!! ;oD

About the garland…..I'm wearing it as a necklace….!!!!…..

…..may I say, not a bad idea!!!!!
Love from Indonesia,

trees...

....I love you, trees!!!!
That's why lately I'm obsessed with them, quite a lot!!!
I have different projects on the hook related with trees, but let's start with the first one....

....a star and a granny diamond......only one????

....obviously no !!!

...yes, above you can see all the pieces needed to complete a christmas decoration.....

....I'm only waiting for the right mood to start the sewing......

But I have other 2 project on the way!!!!!

The second work has to be kept secret until the middle of November.....sorry !!!!!!!

I can show you the third one, instead, ok? Good!!! ;oD

Working with granny diamonds, gave me a new tree idea, but nothing to do with Christmas, this time!!

I wanted a huge tree....

....it measures 62cmx62cm, more or less !!!!!

I started with the foliage, crocheting in total 14 granny diamonds and joining them with the "join as you go " method.
Then, I made the trunk, starting with 3 complete granny diamonds to which I joined 6 half diamonds!!!
Even here, I've used the join as you go method!
The last step consisted in adding more "leaves" to the tree. I did that crocheting a scallop edge around the green diamonds.....too much??? Maybe, but I really like the 3D effect!!!

I'm really curious to know your impressions about this tree !!!!
In the next post I'll show you what I made with it..... ;oD ..... !!!!!

Make it ! Stars and baubles !!!!

Do you remember my sun motif ?????

Well, if you click on the above link, you can follow that photo tutorial to crochet these stars....

.... and these little Christmas baubles....

.....obviously, there are little differences from the original pattern, but I'm going to tell you which they are so you can have fun crocheting all of them : suns, stars and baubles!!!

We have 2 different kind of stars...

....the ones with 8 long&equal points...

....and the ones with 4 long points and 4 mini points...

LET'S START !!!!

Grab your hook (in my case : 5mm hook) and some yarn to start (please remember : I follow the US crochet terms!!! thanks!)

make a slip knot and chain 3 (but if you prefer, chain 4), then slip stitch in the first chain to form a ring. Now chain 3 (they count as your first double crochet or DC) and crochet 7 DCs into the ring. To close your first round, just make a slip stitch in the top of your "chain 3" and fasten off. Trim in the ends. You have 8 stitches (=8 DCs).

Change colour and join it with a slip stitch in any space between 2 posts. In this first space, chain 3 (= 1 DC) and make 1 DC. In the other 7 spaces : make 2 DCs. You'll have in total : 16 DCs. To complete your second round, just make a slip stitch in the top of your "chain 3".

Do not change colour/yarn, so this mean : do not use the scissors to cut your yarn!!! Use the same colour and start with your first point of your star : chain 5, slip stitch in the second chain from the hook, 1 SC (single crochet), 1 hDC (half double crochet), 1 DC in the first chain made. Now, slip stitch in the first space between 2 shells. Repeat this scheme for other 7 times. when the last point is done, just fasten off and trim in the ends.

If you like, you can even add a little hoop on your star!
Don't crochet the last point, but make a chain as long as you like ( I did 10 chains) and make a slip stitch to join it at the star!

Now...

The pattern is the same as the above one we've used to crochet the star with the 8 long points!

You crochet differently only in the last round of your work!

In fact, when you have completed your first long point, that have been attached with a slip stitch in the space between 2 shells, you have to : chain 3, make a slip stitch in the 2nd chain from the hook and  a DC in the 3rd chain from the hook. Make a slip stitch in the space between the 2 shells.
Go on in this way, just alternating the different types of points!!!

At the end, fasten off and trim in the ends!

Do you fancy some little Christmas baubles now ?????

The first two rounds : we already know how to crochet them, right? ;oD

You can choose 2 slightly different tops for them....

TOP "A" : after the slip stitch done to close your last round, just chain 4, make a SC in the 2nd chain from the hook, a hDC in the 3rd chain and a DC in the 4th chain from the hook. Make a slip stitch in the space between 2 shells and then fasten off! Trim in the ends.

TOP "B" : this time, instead of chain 4 : chain 3, make a hDC in the 2nd chain from the hook and 1 DC in the 3rd chain from the hook. Make a slip stitch in the space between 2 shells and then fasten off! Trim in the ends.

Play with colours and yarn types! Hang your decorations everywhere in the home, on the tree or make a beautiful Christmas bunting!!! Adorn your parcels with them!!!
Have fun and enjoy crocheting them all!!!
